SUMMER TERM

  Term Dates:  23rd April 2014 – 23rd May 2014

We hope you all enjoyed the Easter holidays and are looking forward to the new term. Thank you for your support at our Easter Fun Day we raised a magnificent £350.

On Thursday 1st May we hope you will join us at Newbottle and Charlton Primary School at 2.30 p.m. to watch the May Day Dancing. Playgroup children will be performing two dances at this event, pupils at school will also be performing a variety of maypole dances and country dances.

This half term we will be covering the following Topics:

Mixing different coloured paint; painting with smelly paint; making our own play dough incorporating different textures and smells.

We will be exploring different materials, natural and manmade; using our hands and feet to identify different textures; making collages using different materials. Using paper mache for construction.

We will be exploring a range of sounds using musical instruments; listening and identifying the different sounds in our environment.

Alongside our usual snack items we will be tasting a variety of different foods and discuss how they taste.

We continue to use our new mud kitchen in the outside area. Please can all children bring a pair of wellingtons with them when they attend playgroup. We have all in one suits for the children to wear when they are playing outside which are proving to be invaluable!!

A visit to the mobile library van to choose books to share.

We will be looking at all areas of development and learning for all children within the setting.

Thursday 1st MayPlaygroup Open morning 10am-12pm. All current and prospective new parents are welcome.

 May Day Dancing  – at Newbottle and Charlton School at 2.30pm.

Monday 12th May –  A photographer will be visiting playgroup, if your child doesn’t normally attend that day they can still be photographed we can arrange a convenient time for you to bring them in.  Siblings can be photographed too please let us know and we can arrange a time.

Saturday 17th May: Aynho May Day Celebration – Playgroup will have a stall.

Thursday 22nd May 2014 –PLAYGROUP CLOSED due to the hall being used as a Polling Station.

Thursday 22nd May – Pre-school children visit to the Sealife Centre in Birmingham.

Sunday 29th June – Sports day 2-4pm at Charlton playing field the whole family is welcome join us for a fun afternoon, refreshments will be available. 

Thursday 3rd July – Playgroup school trip for children and parents , venue to be confirmed 

Saturday 19th July – Charlton Village fete, Playgroup will have a stall.

 

Appropriate Clothes

Please remember to send appropriate clothes and shoes for the children, especially for playing outside, a coat, hat and gloves are a must for the cold weather.

A sun hat, sun cream, sensible footwear for the hot summer months.

Please remember to send your child with a pair of wellingtons every day. If your child comes to playgroup in their wellingtons please make sure there is another pair of shoes in their bag to change into.

Illness

If your child contracts sickness and diarrhoea the World Health Organisation advises a 48 hour period of isolation from educational establishments. We have always adhered to this rule and so far we have managed to keep the infection rate low.

Contact Details

Please can parents ensure that if they change mobile telephone numbers/contact details that they remember to tell a member of staff as these details are vital to ensure we can contact you in the event of an emergency.

Snacks

We are always grateful for any donations for snack, but we are required to give children healthy snacks, therefore if you wish to make a donation please check with a member of staff as to what is allowed.

We also have a number of children with allergies on role.

Playgroup is a NUT FREE ZONE.

If you would like to bring in cakes for your child’s birthday this is acceptable but please could they not include sweets as decorations or a high colouring content.

 

 

 

 

SPRING TERM

Term Dates: 24th February 2014 – 4th April 2014

We hope you all enjoyed the Nursery Rhyme Assembly which took place at Newbottle and Charlton School last term. Well done to all the children who took part.  We look forward to joining in with Class 1 again in the near future.

This half term we will be covering the following Topics:

2D and 3D shapes; Pancake Day; Mothers Day; Easter; Growing; Sounds.

 We will be settling back into Playgroup and looking through the children’s holiday books.

 We will be exploring our new mud kitchen in the outside area. Please can all children bring a pair of wellingtons with them when they attend playgroup. We have all in one suits for the children to wear when they are playing outside which are proving to be invaluable!!

 We will be learning about Easter and making items relating to this. We will be tasting pancakes during snack time.

 We will be focusing on different sounds using various activities – lotto games; using musical instruments; listening to cd’s.

 Our construction area will have 3D shapes to build with; we will also be making pictures using 2D shapes in our creative area.

 We will be learning to sing “Old Macdonald had a Farm” to coincide with our visit to Warriner School Farm on Thursday 27th March 2014.

 We will be comparing opposites using word games and pictures.

 We will be looking at baby animals and finding out how they grow.

 The children will be planting seeds and watching them grow.

 We will be making items for a very special family member.

Items wanted

We are looking for the following items for use within the setting if anyone is able to help:

  • A Pop Up Gazebo to provide cover for the newly constructed Mud Kitchen.
  •  Wooden Storage Unit with wheels similar to the Ikea Trofast.

We would like to thank everyone who has donated items for the mud kitchen we do appreciate your continued support.
